WINNER of the 2016 Okot P’Bitek Prize Announced

The Centre for African Cultural Excellence (CACE) and the Writivism Festival is proud to announce the winner of The Okot P’Bitek Prize for Poetry in Translation.

This prize celebrates fifty years since the publication of Okot P’Bitek’s Song of Lawino by awarding poets who write originally in an African indigenous language and translate their own poetry to English.

This prize was judged by Juliane Okot Bitek and Duduzile Mabaso.

The joint second prize winners receive USD 50$ and they are

Gbenga Adesina
Nebeolisa Okwudili

The winning poet is:

Redscar McOdindo K’Oyuga

The prize amount is USD 500$ and the winner will also have an option of attending a one-month writing residency at an African University – to be announced soon.
